About Wiebe

Wiebe van Dingen with his sculptures at an outdoor exhibition

Wiebe van Dingen (1954, Loppersum). Visual artist since 1992, art teacher in secondary education.

I grew up in the north of the country, at a time when every village still had its craftsmen. The different trades seemed so accessible, as if they would never die out: clog maker, butcher, carpenter, cabinetmaker, goldsmith, clockmaker. Through my inquiring mind and a growing awareness of God, I developed a feel for beauty, for human relationships and for natural processes.

Wiebe van Dingen talking with visitors by his work

At 27, after a visit to the Rijksmuseum, an interesting creative process began. In the years that followed, latent interests awoke and pieces of the puzzle fell into place. I felt a growing need to learn skills in working wood, (precious) metal and glass. Various courses followed. The skills I developed and the pleasure of working with people led me to choose a career as a fully qualified art teacher.

The jewellery and sculptures that have come into being over time show a process in which personal development and a refined visual ability find expression. This leads to special stories and unforgettable encounters, which in turn become the impetus for new work.
