An altar is a place of sacrifice, a meeting place. In this piece the altar and the offering are made of the same material. Although the offering looks almost polished in relation to the altar. The idea behind it is that you sacrifice something beautiful and precious of yourself to God. Or you give to those in need, or you commit yourself to, for example, refugees / the neighbours / etc.
You are the best thing that can be sacrificed. Through surrender the offering rises in fire, smoke, fragrance, warmth, radiance, glow, energy. The physical takes on an immaterial form. What you offer you lose, and it changes into another dimension. You change too. You go beyond your own limits and share your life; something of value is passed on.
