The Prayer Nut at Museum de Tiid, Bolsward.

THE PRAYER NUT, A TANGIBLE TRAVELLING COMPANION
29 July 2026
14:30 – 17:00

What do you take with you when you go on pilgrimage? And how can a small object grow into a source of peace, hope and reflection?

Artist Wiebe van Dingen developed the prayer nut for this purpose: a small wooden object that pilgrims carry with them on their journey. The prayer nut invites them to stop and reflect along the way on encounters, thoughts and experiences. In this way every nut gradually acquires its own personal meaning.
During this inspiring lecture Wiebe tells the story of how the prayer nut came about, the making process and the special stories of people who took their prayer nut with them on pilgrimage. In this way he shows how a simple wooden object can grow into a personal symbol of hope, connection and reflection.
During the Week van de Bezinning (Week of Reflection) a special presentation of various prayer nuts can also be seen at Museum De Tiid. After the lecture there is an opportunity to buy a prayer nut and to talk with its maker.
