The prayer nut at the Louvre, Paris

From 21 July until 10 January 2022 the exhibition titled “The Last Judgement” can be seen at the Louvre. After Toronto, New York and Amsterdam, the French capital now gets the chance to showcase this beautiful object. The accompanying catalogue at the Rijksmuseum was very fittingly named “Small Wonders”. And that is exactly what it is about. The prayer nuts brought together are not just beautiful pieces of woodcarving; they are much more. The story behind them gripped me at the time and has never let go of me. Even better, I started making prayer nuts myself and still do. Such a treasure is now a travel altar, affordable and available for everyone. How special it is when people, sometimes after years, tell me they have bought or been given a prayer nut and how it has enriched their path in life.
